Retrofit Your Commercial Lighting with LED & Qualify for Big Rebates
Replacing your commercial or industrial facility’s halogen, incandescent, or fluorescent lighting with LED lamps and fixtures not only saves money on energy costs, but may also qualify your company for substantial energy rebates from your utility provider.
In Southeast Michigan, both Consumers Energy and DTE offer substantial incentives in the form of energy rebates to make the switch to LED lighting more accessible and financially beneficial, promoting energy efficiency across various sectors.
What is Commercial LED Lighting Retrofitting?
LED lighting retrofitting involves updating your existing lighting system with energy-efficient LED (light-emitting diode) technology. This process can include replacing old lamps – especially inefficient halogen, incandescent, or fluorescent lighting and fixtures – with new LED equivalents or installing entirely new LED lighting systems.
LED lights consume significantly less energy compared to traditional lighting solutions and have a longer lifespan, resulting in lower maintenance costs, lower energy bills, and reduced environmental impact. For example, according to DTE, LED light bulbs use up to 90% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than incandescent light bulbs!
And, retrofitting to LED lighting offers numerous benefits beyond energy savings and rebates. LEDs provide better light quality, which can enhance the workplace environment and improve productivity. Additionally, LEDs generate less heat, reducing the load on air conditioning systems, which further contributes to your energy savings.
What is an Energy Rebate and How Does it Work?
An energy rebate is a financial incentive offered by utility companies (or government programs) to encourage businesses and homeowners to adopt energy-efficient technologies. These rebates are designed to offset the initial cost of implementing energy-saving measures, making it more affordable to upgrade to systems like LED lighting.
To qualify for an energy rebate, your business needs to follow the utility company’s specific guidelines and submit required documentation for each program. The amount of the lighting rebate can vary based on the type of equipment installed, the energy savings achieved, and the specific program requirements. By taking advantage of these lighting rebates, commercial enterprises can significantly reduce their upfront investment in LED retrofitting projects.
The commercial LED lighting retrofit experts at JLR Group have helped dozens of businesses in in St. Clair County, Sanilac County, and across Southeast Michigan qualify for substantial lighting rebates through the Consumers Energy and DTE energy rebate programs.
DTE LED Lighting Retrofit Discount
To qualify for LED lighting rebates from DTE, businesses can participate in the DTE Lighting Instant Discount Program. Their motto is “Switch out your lights and turn up the savings.”
This program offers “instant” discounts on qualifying Design Lights Consortium® and ENERGY STAR®-certified products through participating distributors. The advantage of instant discounts is that it reduces your upfront costs while eliminating the need for a lot of paperwork to apply for reimbursement later on.
Your new LED lighting products must be selected from DTE’s list of qualified products and must be purchased through a participating distributor. Discounts are available ONLY to DTE commercial and industrial electric customers and the lamps and fixtures must be installed and operated at the customer’s commercial facility within a DTE service territory.
Eligible DTE Instant energy rebate products include:
- Exterior fixtures
- Linear and panel LED lighting
- Interior high bay fixtures
- Occupancy sensors and exit signs
- Screw-in light bulbs
Consumers Energy LED Lighting Retrofit Rebate Program
Consumers Energy also offers an LED retrofit lighting rebate program aimed at encouraging businesses to adopt energy-efficient lighting technologies. This program covers a wide range of LED products and provides substantial rebates to offset the cost of upgrading to LEDs. While not as easy as DTEs “instant” discounts, Consumers Energy’s rebates still make it cost effective for businesses to improve their energy efficiency while reducing their energy costs.
To participate in Consumers Energy’s rebate program, businesses need to ensure they are using eligible LED products and complete the necessary application process. The rebate amounts are determined based on the specific lighting upgrades and the resulting energy savings.
Consumers Energy provides guidance and support throughout the process to help businesses achieve the best possible outcomes. They offer consultations with an Energy Reduction Specialist who can help your business find energy efficiency solutions and determine rebates that are right for you.
Commercial operations must complete their Application for Rebates within 60 days of completing their project, and a rebate check will be mailed to you within 6 to 8 weeks of application approval.
